Turn Your iPhone into a Retro Cassette Player

Miss your Walkman?  Then turn your iPhone/iPod Touch into a retro cassette player.

AirCasstte takes CoverFlow from your iTunes music library and displays a running cassette in place of the same old cover artwork.  You get something that looks like this spinning on the screen:

Even rewind and fast-forward are replicated.  You can also choose the type of cassette you want displayed.  And you can share your playlist with friends, in effect providing them with a–wait for it–mixtape.

For two bucks, I’m in.  More here.

  • If you, like me, have had no luck updating your iPhone to IOS5, beware of this app.
Apparently it only works in IOS5 systems. Looks cool, though!

  • If there's any retro trend that needs to die and never happen it's the comeback of cassettes. They sound worse and are more inconvenient than CD's. Vinyl may be inconvenient but at least you can justify it based on the larger/better artwork and sound quality. Cassettes just need to be forgotten.
