Interview

I talked to Chris Martin about Coldplay’s new single and the time the band almost got me sent to jail

Sixteen years ago when I was program director at 102.1 the Edge/Toronto, we had Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland of Coldplay into our storefront studio to perform a few tracks on the occasion of the release of their X&Y album.

Things, however, got out a little of hand.

Toronto Police were not happy with this scale of disruption at rush hour. Let’s just say that I spent some time in the back room at 52 Division. No hard feelings, though–although I never heard from Coldplay regarding my, er, troubles with The Man.

That was the last time I spoke with Chris Martin. However, I finally had a chance to follow up with him with the release of the new single, “Higher Power.” We cleared things up amicably. And he asked me to send him my t-shirt.
