Hear a Sample of the Upcoming “Kurt Cobain Solo Album”

Sadly, Kurt is still dead. But because a trove of unreleased recordings was uncovered during the filming of the documentary Montage of Heck, there’s enough material to gather together for an album. Most of this material is Kurt working out stuff on his own (demos, song fragments, rejected songs, etc.), so I guess it’s appropriate to call this a solo album.

The title of the record, Montage of Heck: The Home Recordings, will be released November 13 as part of the DVD release of the doc. A sneak peek of the album is “Sappy,” an early acoustic version of the song that would become “Verse Chorus Verse” for the 1993 AIDS benefit compilation album, No Alternative.

This track will be released as a single soon. One version will be on a limited-edition 7-inch with Kurt singing the Beatles “And I Love Her” on the B-side.

  • Does this really count as an “unearthed recording”? I’ve had a bootleg cd since the late 90s that has this recording on it. It was included in one of the series of Outcesticide bootlegs. I hope there is actually unheard music on the new release.
