Music Industry

How important are the economic benefits of live music in Canada? There’s a new study.

The Canadian Live Music Association CLMA) got together with a consultancy firm called Nordcity to assess the impact live music has on the Canadian economy. The findings are pretty wild.

  • $5.84 billion salaries
  • The industry supports almost 102,000 eqiuvalent full-time jobs.

Impressive. Do not let anyone tell you that the Canadian live music industry is insignificant or not worth supporting. That’s clearly insane.

The report also makes some asks and recommendations.

  • Protecting existing music venues
  • Get the private sector to chip in with more sponsorships and collaborations.
  • Working on issues of discrimination and other barriers to entry.
  • Pay people better.
