Mudhoney is now officially (a) boring (machine).

Whenever there is a new public works project, it’s become trendy to ask the public for input when it comes to naming it. This is how we ended up with Boaty McBoatface and the fantastic names for the snow removal trucks in Scotland.

Cut to Seattle where the city is digging new tunnels to help with stormwater runoff. A massive boring machine was required for the job, which meant that the machine needed a name. The public was surveyed and the winner out of more than 30 thousand entries was Mudhoney.

The band, an essential part of the history of grunge, was pretty chuffed by the honour. More at Pitchfork.
