Ongoing History Daily: Joe Strummer’s secret obsession

Joe Strummer will forever be known as the main voice of the Clash.  He continues to live on as an icon of punk rock.  But Joe had a very un-punk-rock-like hobby.  He liked to jog.  Legend has it that one day after rehearsal, Joe had everyone bus it over to Hyde Park where they jogged around a lake called the Serpentine.

While the rest of the band gave up and went back to the pub, Joe really got into it.  In fact, Joe became quite a dedicated runner and workout freak.  Joe went on to compete in a number of marathons.  This makes his death of an undetected congenital heart defect even more tragic and ironic, doesn’t it?

Yesterday’s post dealt with averting a potentially embarrassing Muse situation.
