Ongoing History Daily: The biggest drum set in the world

I got into music because I wanted to be a drummer and for me, the bigger the kit, the better–Neil Peart, Keith Moon, that kind of thing. But according to the Guinness Book of World Records, neither of those guys are listed as having the biggest drum set in the world. This really, really surprised me.

According to the Guinness people, the guy with the certified largest drum set in the world is–wait for it–Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They say he played a kit with 308 pieces. That number dates to 2008. However, that number has blown away.

A guy named Mark Temperato—a full-time minister as well as a musician—has a kit featuring 813 pieces. That was in 2021. His goal is to make it to 1,000.

The last post talked about ripping every song ever recorded.
