Ongoing History Daily: Weird musician hobbies, part 1

When you’re a musician, most of your life is obviously taken up by music.  But you still need those times to chillax and turn your mind to other pursuits.  Take the case of Alex James of Blur.  He finds peace in making cheese–and he’s very good at it.

Other rock star hobbies include:

  • Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A Perfect Circle loves wine–so much so that he has his own vineyard in Arizona.
  • Iggy Pop loves to golf and paint.
  • Kelley Deal of the Breeders chills by knitting.
  • David Lovering of the Pixies practices magic and is considered to be a pro.
  • James Hetfield of Metallica really like bee-keeping.
  • Producer Steve Albini is a professional poker player and has won huge tournaments.
  • Tom Morello is a fanatic when it comes to playing Dungeons and Dragons.
  • And Lemmy from Motorhead?  He collected Nazi memorabilia.

More next time.
