Ottawa commuters will soon be able to ride Gord Downie to work
The tributes for late Tragically Hip man Gord Downie keep coming, sometimes from unusual directions.
Take the case of OC Transpo, Ottawa’s public transit system. As it works on implementing the new O-Train Conferdation light rail system, OC Transpo conducted a “Name the Trains” contest to give things the human touch. People 16 and under were invited to submit suggestions for names for 40 new trains.
When everything goes into service, there will be trains named after Emily Carr, Farley Mowat–and Gord Downie. This shot is by Ottawa mayor Jim Watson.
What an honour to pay tribute to a remarkable Canadian musician and philanthropist who left us too soon. Thanks to the winners of the “Name the Trains” contest, Gord Downie's memory will live on the #OTrain Confederation Line 1. You can see it now along the #ottLRT alignment. pic.twitter.com/DuhSkLffri
