Pretty sure I’ve had hearing loss since my early 20s. After one particular KMFDM show I couldn’t hear well for three days after and I’ve worn earplugs to every single concert since. I don’t score particularly well on those online hearing tests.
Fwiw I’m finding these days that I just use my bluetooth earbuds as earplugs at shows. I always have them on me, and basically have three adjustment settings to work with: “hear-through” (where it actually pipes outside sound through, but it’s still quieter than the average show. I find muffled or muddy-sounding shows actually sound better with this setting usually), “off” where it’s just an earplug, and noise-cancelling helps reduce the volume further if I really need a break.
But yeah … I really need to turn the headphones down too.
I grew up farming driving tractors and now I fix commercial aircraft, my hearing has taken a beating over the years even though I use hearing protection. I am sure that I have lost some of the higher frequencies and occasionally have a hard time hearing people speaking, particularly women’s voice (normally higher pitch). I get tested yearly and have seen a decline in the higher ranges, which sucks for some guitar solos.
As for Elvis’ plane, the Lockheed Jetstar was THE luxury private jet of it’s day. BCIT in Vancouver had the prototype for a while, it was pretty spiffy. Sadly, Elvis’ plane is probably worth more as scrap these days, pull out the cool seats, and scrap the rest. Far too costly to restore unless someone has a large disposable income to throw at it.
