SiriusXM to Launch Channel Devoted to Talking About Music. (And Why Didn’t They Call Me?)

When satellite radio started expanding its offerings, a buddy and I started talking about what XM and Sirius should do (this was before the merger).

“They have so many talk channels. Sports! Politics! Medicine! Religion! Entertainment! Comedy! They should start up a channel that involves people talking intelligently about music? Hell, I’d listen to that!”

Well, it’s finally happened. Starting October 17, SiriusXM will fire up Volume, a channel devoted to talking about music. Talk shows, Interviews. A quiz show, fer crisssakes. Show hosts will include everyone from Kurt Loder (ex-MTV), author Bill Flangan plus artists like Melissa Etheridge (her show will be called “Melissa’s Basement”), Lady Gaga, Robert Plant, David Crosby, Scott Ian of Anthrax. Shows will tackle the music issues of the day, music technology and all genres of music. It’s being described as “sports radio for music fans.” Rolling Stone’s Now podcast will also air on the channel.

Got it. I’m in. But why didn’t anyone call me? But hey, it’s not too late. Gimme a ring. I’d love to find a satellite home for The Ongoing History of New Music.
