The Daily Mail thought they found Meg White. They were wrong and now there’s trouble.

The White Stripes officially came to an end on February 2, 2011. Since then, Jack White has been everywhere. But whither Meg White?

She’s chosen to drop out of sight completely and is living a happy, quiet, very private life. Good on her.

However, there are those who want to violate that privacy, including Britain’s Daily Mail. According to The Guardian, someone from the paper followed and tried to take a picture of a woman in Detroit. The paper then published the story on August 6, describing the woman in question as “the reclusive female megastar” and details of her “secret new life.”

The Daily Mail posted more than a dozen pictures of the woman and a couple of friends outside a restaurant. It’s the first picture of Meg in public in 17 years!

Uh, no. The woman turned out NOT to be Meg White. Oops. Yes, Meg lives in the Detroit area, but this particular woman was just a friend of Meg’s.

The Daily Mail removed the story and photos from the website without explanation or apology. You can read about the entire mistake here.
