This is the very last Canadian CD and vinyl sales report for 2024. And the winner is…REALLY? What year is this?
The chart year officially came to an end last week with the final five days of 2024 were incorporated into Luminate’s data. Here’s how we’ll remember CD and vinyl sales for those 12 months.
- Total CDs sold in Canada during the last week of 2024: 53,277 (down 23.1% from the previous week.)
- Total LPs sold during that same period: 89,619 (down 11.1% from the week leading into Christmas.)
- CDs sold in all of Canada in 2024: 1,854,710 (down 9.6% from the end of 2023)
- Vinyl sold in all of Canada in 2025: 1,867,640 (up 32.4% from a year ago.)
Hold up. Let’s look at those numbers. Did new vinyl really outsell new CDs? Yes. The margin of victory was 9,930 units. But to be fair, with the way the calendar fell, the 2024 chart year included 53 weeks. Still, the fact that vinyl outsold CDs in Canada is an amazing thing. I expected the trend lines to cross in a couple of months, but not by the end of 2024. Wow.
Streaming? Sure.
- Streams in Canada last week: 2,504,431,303 (down 11.8% from the previous week, which was–I think–and all time high at more than three billion).
- Streams in Canada in all of 2024: 145,089,987,679 (11.5% higher than 2023).

I’m sure many people have pointed out that your article states that there were almost 2 million LP’s sold in just the first week of 2025. Oops! Typo!
Happy New Year Allan!
I’m waiting until 8 tracks make a comeback (LOL)
