Toronto #courageforgord Fan Fundraiser Raises over $18K

As we’ve all seen in the aftermath of Gord Downie’s public announcement of his terminal brain cancer diagnosis and during the Man Machine Poem tour, Tragically Hip fans are absolutely amazing.

Across the country, people held #courageforgord Fan Fundraisers that helped raise funds for the Sunnybrook Foundation. Rob Ferreira, who led the Toronto series of fundraisers sent us a breakdown of the funds he helped raise. In Toronto alone, the #courageforgord Fan Fundraiser collected over $18,000.

Here’s the breakdown:

Onsite Merchandise and Raffle — $8,322

Silent Auction — $3,535

#courageforgord Toronto Online Gift Shop — $3,146 (to date)

Firkin on Harbour Donation — $2,100

Team Toronto Online Donations — $295

Rob’s Cottage Dock Lemonade Stand — $280

Total — $18,105

That amount of money is absolutely amazing and Ferreira will personally deliver this message to Sunnybrook Foundation.

As he said in his message to the Tragically Hip Fan Forum group on Facebook:

“But let’s not leave it at that. There’s still a lot we can do. If nothing else, this Tragically Hip tour has helped to show others that it’s important to be aware and to speak up about cancer and more so, to fight it head on! Together we can make a difference. If you have not already contributed in one way or another, PLEASE make a small donation to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research here https://donate.sunnybrook.ca/braincancerresearch

If you can take anything away from Gord Downie, the Hip and their legacy, remember to live. Because after all, “no one’s interested in something you didn’t do”.
