Twitter has re-branded as X. And there are problems. This is funny.
Yesterday, in the biggest rebranding in social media since “The Facebook” became just “Facebook,” Elon Musk decided to kill Larry the Bird and rebranded Twitter as X. If you go to X.com, you’ll be directed to Twitter.com. And yes, there have been problems.
- The logo for X is not the result of some grand design project. It’s a generic Unicode character.
- Microsoft owns the trademark on “X.” (See below)
- Instagram and Meta own the trademark for “X” when it comes to “online social networking services…social networking services in the fields of entertainment, gaming, and application development.” (See below) Mark Zuckerberg must be giggling maniacally.
- Elon tried to take the Twitter logo down from the side the company’s HQ in San Francisco but was stopped because of lack of the proper permits. (See below)
- Videos on X are called “XVideos.” You can probably guess what the problem is.
- The
TwitterX website is a mess. - Meanwhile, marketing experts are scratching their heads over this whole thing.
And people still think that this guy is a genius.
There is also X Japan, a well known Japanese rock band. X can’t change their name in Japan without being sued.
