Will there ever be a Gord Downie hologram? No. Here’s why.

Hologram technology as it can be applied to a live music setting was still pretty new when Gord Downie was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2016. Glioblastoma is inevitably fatal, so Gord knew he was on borrowed time.

It was around that time that a hologram company approached The Tragically Hip, wondering if Gord would be interested in being preserved as a hologram for future performances.

According to the Canadian Press, Gord’s response was “Are you kidding me? No chance.”

This is one of the stories coming out of the band as the four surviving members do press for the upcoming four-part documentary, No Dress Rehearsal, which will debut at TIFF on September 5 before making its way to Amazon Prime.

Paul Langlois and Johnny Fay say they will honour Gord’s wishes if any hologram company comes sniffing around again.
