Are Apple and Spotify working together to create better workouts at the gym?

I was at the gym yesterday and once again the music was awful. I have to remember to bring my earbuds. And if this rumour comes to pass, it may be the only way to use music during a workout.

Apple and Spotify could be working on something to personalize the music for physical exercise. By allowing Spotify to access health data on your iPhone, we might get playlists from Spotify that matches workouts with our favourite music. It will consider motivation, the type of workout, what kind of distance you want to cover, and your pace or speed.

So specific songs for specific exercise routines, but personalized to our motions and effort? Cool? (Spotify doesn’t necessarily have to connect to an iPhone. Theoretically, any fitness tracker will do, but the idea of Spotify and Apple working together is intriguing.)

This isn’t a new thing, really. Apple HealthKit is already integrated into apps from WeightWatchers, Nike Run Club, and Withings.

This does, however, create some privacy issues. What could happen if you share health data between two apps? There will be all kinds of permissions for Spotify to access the different aspects of HeathKit, I’m sure. I hope.
