Attention Tragically Hip fans: Gord Downie’s Coke Machine Glow is getting a special 20th-anniversary reissue and audiobook next month

Has it really been 20 years since Gord Downie released his Coke Machine Glow solo album? It has–and given everything that’s happened in those two decades, it’s fitting that the record will get an expanded 20th-anniversary edition officially entitled Coke Machine Glow: Songwriters’ Cabal.

The record–a triple album!–will feature unreleased demos, outtakes, and a songbook (for voice, guitar, and piano). Arts & Crafts is behind the record, which is coming on August 27.

But wait! Theres’ more.

Penguin Random House will release Coke Machine Glow Audiobook, a separate thing that will feature a full reading of Gord’s book of poetry. A number of people were enlisted to read Gord’s stuff, including Dan Ackroyd, Sarah Harmer, Bruce McCullough of Kids in the Hall, Don Kerr, and–wait for it–Ron MacLean.

This reading is not included in either release, but Rob Baker’s reading of “I Stand Before the Songwriters’ Cabal” gives us an idea of what to expect.
