By: Juliette Jagger (@juliettejagger)
Artist: Morgan Cameron Ross
Song: “I Won’t Live Until I Die”
Album/EP: Single

After spending the past couple of years writing for Grammy winners and platinum selling artists alike, not to mention securing a Billboard Top 10 with his own band Bellwoods, Morgan Cameron Ross decided it was high time to take a step back from the pop game and revisit his roots. The resulting track, “I Won’t Live Until I Die,” which was co-written by Bobby Bazini and features striking guest vocals from Justin Nozuka, is a stark, heartfelt, and deeply personal take on the folk and country-western songwriting traditions. Close your eyes and take it in below.

Artist: Wolkoff
Song: “He’s A Lizard”
Album/EP: Single

Following the release of her critically acclaimed debut album, Without Shame, in early 2016, synth-pop powerhouse Wolkoff has returned with a brand new offering entitled, “He’s A Lizard.” The genre-defying track, which is her first collab with NYC producer Atropolis, is a stylistic homage to the spirit of dancehall and features dreamy-synths, staccato horns, and short stabby chords to accent the kick and bass. Can you dig?

Artist: DYLYN
Song: “Mimosa”
Album/EP: Single

Sometimes, our lives fill themselves with loss, heartache, and anger, and it is our duty to ourselves to decide whether we’re going to drown in it or fight our way through. That sentiment burns fiery and bright at the heart of this feisty new rack from Toronto artist DYLYN. Equally as combative and as it is playful, “Mimosa” is your new favourite Saturday night JAM.

Artist: AIDA
Song: “Tu me rends fou”
Album/EP: Single

Blending funky Prince-infused guitars with 808s and a big bold female pop vocal lead, “Tu me rends fou” from France-by-way-of-Toronto artist AIDA, relishes in a penchant for aesthetics and puts a whole new spin on traditional 80s pop. Bravo!

Artist: Aluna George // DEVAULT
Song: “Not Above Love” (DEVAULT Remix)
Album/EP: Single

From up-and-coming Orange County producer DEVAULT, this remix of Aluna George’s “Not Above Love” is completely captivating. Drawing upon a wide range of influences that include everyone from Depeche Mode to RL Grime and even Flume, his production not only pushes the track into new emotive territory but gives its narrative a bit of a darker, more brooding twist.
