Ongoing History Daily: Twenty One Pilots vs. basketball

When he was growing up in Columbus, Ohio, Twenty One Pilots singer Tyler Joseph was a really good basketball player. He was homeschooled for much of his life and part of his curriculum involved taking free throws. His mom, who was in charge of all his education, demanded that he take at least 500 shots every single day.

And mom knew what she was doing. By the time he was ready for college, he’d become an excellent point guard for his high school, which won a big championship. Tyler was offered a basketball scholarship to Otterbein University, which is in the north part of Columbus.

You can imagine how well it went over when he told his mom he was dropping out to pursue a career in music. But that turned out all right, didn’t it?

If you missed the last post, it was all about the writing of Blur’s “Song 2.”
