Will Adele EVER play Las Vegas? It doesn’t look like it.
The intrigue over Adele’s last-second cancellation of her much-hyped residency at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas is not going away. Why would such a big star bail on such a big-money, high-profile series of gigs? It seems that more and more people aren’t buying her story.
- We were initially told that the shows couldn’t go as scheduled because “half the crew had COVID.”
- Adele told everyone that “the show just ain’t ready.” With so many months to prepare and with all the money and talent available to her, how was that possible?
Here are some follow-ups:
- Half her crew didn’t have COVID. Now some stories say that it was just one person. Even if that’s not true, the COVID thing seems to be a McGuffin for what really happened.
- She never made it through a single rehearsal in a month leading up to the gigs. Instead, she was “screaming and sobbing” on the phone with her boyfriend. Why? One story is that it’s “trouble in paradise.”
- There are all kinds of stories of explosive blowups with set designer/creative director Esmeralda Devlin or the look and feel of the show. A big sticking point was a swimming pool in the middle of the stage over which it would appear which walked. She called it “a baggy old pond,” allegedly,
- Some say that Adele’s legendary stage fright got the best of her.
- There were allegedly demands to install new video system over top of the state-of-the-art house system as well as replace the house PA. Those demands came at the last minute. No wonder there were “delivery issues.”
- And what’s this about demands for a 60-person choir? And just for the opening number, “Skyfall?”
- Sources in Vegas claim that Adele’s team was “a total nightmare” during preparations for the gigs.
- There are rumours of issues with her manager, Jonathan Dickens, who has been with her since she was a teenager. Some rumours say she wants to dump him for her boyfriend, Rich Paul, who normally works as a sports agent.
- Will these shows ever be rescheduled? Not anytime soon now that the sets have been removed from Caesars Palace. Keith Urban is moving in to cover some of those dates.
Adele is lying low in LA for the moment. It’s said that she’s trying to save her relationship because Rich “wasn’t there for her.”
It’s said that negotiations are ongoing between Adele’s people, Caesar’s, and Live Nation.
But will Adele EVER play Las Vegas? Jury’s out.
UPDATE: She’s not appearing at The Brits now.
