Ongoing History Daily: The Red Hot Chili Peppers on Sesame Street?

True or false: The Red Hot Chili Peppers were once booked to perform on Sesame Street.  This is absolutely true.

According to Anthony Kiedis, the band had wanted to appear on Sesame Street for years–and believe it or not, the producers had actually decided to invite them for a guest shot. However, other producers for the Children’s Television Workshop (the company that produces Sesame Street) must have been familiar with the Chili Peppers past, especially their predilection for performing with nothing but socks on their junk and often completely naked.

When they were informed about the band’s live reputation, they decided that the Chili Peppers “would not be appropriate for the show.”
